Our Approach To Psychosocial Rehabilitation

Rather than simply focusing on areas of weaknesses, our approach to rehabilitation of persons living with mental health conditions is holistic and focuses on empowering clients and building on their existing capabilities. These abilities help form a foundation upon which other important life skills can be developed through observation, modeling, education, and practice.

We always look at each client's situation and help determine what the individual needs in order to live and function as independently as possible in his or her community. This frequently involves determining what services the client needs, locating those services in the community, and coordinating the delivery of those services. Key domains addressed through our psychosocial rehabilitation model include basic living skills, family relationships, peer and social relationships, employment, education, recreation, health, and wellness.

Social skills Training

Social skills and interpersonal functioning are important parts of our psychosocial rehabilitation. Our skills training  focus on helping people better function in their social worlds, including family, work, school, friendships, and romance. This is done by teaching skills related to emotional understanding, interpersonal problem-solving, verbal and conversational abilities, and nonverbal communication.

Work Skills Training

Work has beneficial effects on mental wellness and can help people feel productive, which is why vocational assistance is an important component of  our psychosocial rehabilitation. Finding and maintaining work often improves social connections, boost self-esteem, and improves the overall quality of life. We, therefore, help people living with mental health conditions develop vocational skills, connect them to employment services in the community, assist  them with career planning, and providing transportation assistance.

Housing Services

We connect neglected and homeless people living with mental health conditions to safe, affordable, and appropriate housing so that they may live as independently and dignified in their own homes or family homes as possible. For those identified and confirmed truly homeless, looming around the street and have no known relatives, we provide housing support to ensure they are also  in safe, secure and conducive environment or shelter. We also provide dormitory facilities to people living with psychosocial disabilities who come for vocational skill training at our project site.

.

Transport Services

We provide transport assistance to persons living with mental health conditions relocating to safe, secure and conducive place and those requiring further services somewhere.

What We Do

We promote community involvement in mental health services, care and inspire communities on how to prevent mental health conditions  through Television and Radio programs, community outreach, patient testimony time, Showcasing of Patient-Own-Art-Work and drama group presentations.

One of the our overriding goals of psychosocial rehabilitation is to help people living with mental health conditions neglected, homeless and rooming around the streets of Zambia and Africa at large become better integrated within their community.
